John -- President Obama reached out to ask for your support in this next phase of redistricting. I wanted to give you some context on what to expect in 2023.

AOTL movement advocating for redistricting reforms
SCOTUS decisions on redistricting cases like Moore v. Harper
TBD number of states redrawing maps (we know North Carolina will!)

President Obama was right -- a majority of Americans cast ballots with fair maps this year and that’s reason to celebrate. But the states where the maps have been challenged as race-based or partisan gerrymanders account for a quarter of congressional districts.

We set an end-of-year goal to raise $23,000. Will you chip in? [[link removed] 20221228_AOTL_F_eoy1_Actives]

We need to be prepared. Upcoming court decisions will determine if these states must redraw their congressional maps. And redraws take resources -- we’ll be organizing voters on the ground to take action, working with local partners to build advocacy efforts, analyzing census and election data, and evaluating if draft maps are fair.

Map redraws are like hitting rewind two years and starting the redistricting process in a state all over again. And that’s just one piece of our 2023 puzzle.

Thanks for your support,
AOTL Team
