The One-Minute Meeting

The Supreme Court says it will hear the Title 42 case in February and keep the quick expulsion rule in place until at least then. Border states can claim a temporary victory as Chief Justice John Roberts casts doubt on whether there is any continued COVID-19-related reason to keep Title 42 in place. The pandemic was the original basis for the rule that allows the U.S. government to expel migrants seeking asylum while their cases wind through the courts, which can take years.

More than two million immigrants are now waiting for a court to consider their cases. At the current rate of case disposal, a migrant entering the country today won’t get a court hearing for two years.

One thing many parts of the country need today is snowplow drivers. The driver shortage has dragged on for a couple of years now and local governments are discovering that they are not paying competitive wages. You journalists should look at how much it costs to keep the drivers they have on overtime instead of paying more and hiring more drivers.

The days of free online returns may be numbered. Online retailers are starting to make it more difficult and costly to return stuff. Some retailers are charging for returns and others have stopped sending prepaid return labels. Part of the reason is the high cost of restocking returns. Plus, retailers want to sell their goods, not have them sent back.
