EP Plenary | Conference on the Future
of Europe | Green Deal

This week will see the first European Parliament plenary session of
the year and of the Croatian EU Presidency, giving Croatian Prime
Minister Andrej Plenković the opportunity to present present the
priorities of the presidency to MEPs. This week will also be decisive
for the Conference on the Future of Europe that is planned to take
place between 2020-2022. MEPs will debate their vision of the
“Conference on the Future of Europe” on Wednesday morning, in the
presence of Council President Michel and Commission President von der
Leyen. The vote will take place Wednesday afternoon. Last but not
least, European Green Deal will be high on the agenda this week, with
MEPs will voting on a resolution on the Commission's Green Deal
proposal.

European Parliament
MEPs will debate and vote on their vision on the scope of the
2020-2022 "Conference on the Future of Europe" on Wednesday, followed
by a debate with Council President Charles Michel and Commission
President Ursula von der Leyen. The conference is supposed to begin in
2020 and run for two years. The draft resolution on which MEPs are
expected to vote on Wednesday calls for citizens of all backgrounds to
be involved in setting the EU’s priorities in line with citizens’
concerns in a transparent and well-balanced approach. Later on
Wednesday, MEPs will vote on motions for resolutions for the European
New Deal and will discuss environmental policy, climate policy,
climate change and ozone layer. On the topic of Brexit, MEPs will
first debate on Tuesday over how the UK and EU27 governments will
manage citizens’ rights after Brexit, followed by a vote on a
resolution on implementing and monitoring provisions on citizens’
rights in the UK Withdrawal Agreement on Wednesday. The draft text
MEPs will vote on highlights that it must be implemented the fair and
balanced provisions to protect citizens’ rights during and after the
transition period.

European Commission
On Tuesday, ahead of the Parliament's “Conference of Europe” debate
and vote on Wednesday, Commission Vice-Presidents Dubravka Šuica and
Věra Jourová will put forward the 'Conference on the Future of Europe'
Commission Concept Paper. Also on the agenda of the college meeting
this week: President von der Leyen and Executive Vice-President
Dombrovskis will present a Sustainable Europe Investment Plan, which
is supposed to combine financing to support sustainable investments.
Vice-President Dombrovskis will also introduce and discuss with MEPs
during Plenary session a Proposal for a “Just Transition Fund” which
seeks to help EU countries transition from coal to low carbon.
