Dear Friends --
2022 was a big year for the YIMBY movement. With your help, we can accomplish even more in 2023.
This year we eliminated parking minimums near transit and in walkable neighborhoods. The state adopted major land use reforms allowing affordable housing in commercial zones, and made it easier for colleges and universities to build housing for students and faculty.
Whether crafting policy, sponsoring legislation, or advocating in Sacramento, California YIMBY was instrumental in those victories. Now we’re gearing up for an even more ambitious 2023. With your help, we can expand the YIMBY movement and spread the message of housing abundance to even more Californians – paving the way for a more affordable and equitable California.

In 2023, California YIMBY is leading the way on:
-
Climate safe housing. By making it faster, cheaper, and easier to build more homes in walkable neighborhoods, and in areas close to jobs, good schools, and transit, we can provide more climate-safe housing and reduce the risk of catastrophic losses due to climate change.
-
Building on success. Many of our bedrock housing laws have begun to make a difference, and can be streamlined and strengthened to ensure they continue to deliver on the promise of more homes for Californians at all income levels.
-
New pathways to homeownership. The dream of homeownership remains out of reach for too many Californians, especially communities of color. Homeownership helps families achieve financial security, provides stable housing at a fixed cost, and can help California address the racial wealth gap.
To succeed, we must educate Californians about the issues, and make a strong case for change.
California YIMBY has proven our ability to do that with this year’s successes in Sacramento. In 2023 we intend to ramp up our work communicating a pro-housing message to even more Californians, particularly in the crucial battlegrounds of Los Angeles and Southern California.
Using a mix of traditional and social media and our strong grassroots presence across the state, we believe we can grow the YIMBY movement, reach new communities, and build a larger coalition for change.
