Dear John,

Take a look back at 2022 and listen to our 100th episode of

The Impact of ACOs

Accountable care organizations (ACOs) have become more prevalent over
the past decade, but what impact do they have on cost, use, and quality
of care?

Charmaine Girdish and coauthors analyze administrative claims data from
2016 to 2021
<[link removed]>
to assess the ongoing incremental impact of Elevance Health's
commercial ACO program on cost and use across fifteen US states.

In their analysis, they review the program's impact on spending
subcategories and measure differences in quality performance. The
authors' findings indicate that the program was associated with
incremental savings.

Overall, incremental savings were greater in the fully insured
population relative to the administrative services only population and
were due to outpatient and pharmacy savings.
