Animal agriculture is a nightmare for animals. And the harms of the system don’t stop there. Big Ag exploits farmers, contributes significantly to environmental degradation and climate change, and creates unequal access to fruits and vegetables.
Is there a solution? We think so, which is why we’ve developed our Farm Transitions Program, which provides farmers with the guidance and tools they need to exit animal farming and forge a new path farming plants.
Animal Outlook’s Farm Transitions program is run by Dr. Timothy Bradford, Jr. (T.J.), a fifth-generation farmer from Mississippi. T.J. is a Doctor of Agricultural Sciences, a former Professor of Agronomy, and a former soil scientist with the USDA Natural Resource Conservation Service. T.J. knows farming, farmers, and farm communities.
T.J. and the team have created a 6-stage, 36-step blueprint designed to take any farm from raising animals to growing plants. The program provides a framework for legal assistance, critical partners to work with, financing advice, and guidance on architectural renovation and infrastructure, equipment compatibility, assessment of land capability, market access, and business consulting.
Animal Outlook's Farm Transitions program is designed to take any farm from raising animals to growing plants.
With Farm Transitions, everyone wins. Here’s why:
Big Animal Ag exploits animal farmers, many of whom are deep in debt and unable to earn a livable income, all while large corporations like Tyson and Perdue make billions.
Approximately 10 billion land animals are slaughtered annually for food in the U.S. Each animal farm that transitions to farming plants means that fewer animals suffer.
Animal agriculture has a devastating impact on the environment. It is responsible for deforestation, water pollution, soil depletion, and greenhouse gas emissions. Fewer animal farms means less damage to the planet.
Communities also suffer as a result of animal farming. Poorer communities have less access to healthy food and lack environmental sovereignty, and communities without readily available fruits and vegetables suffer more frequently from diet-related illnesses.
We can all make a difference individually by eating vegan, and together we can do even more by removing animals from the barbaric animal agriculture industry.
All donations made before December 31 will be matched dollar-for-dollar up to $100,000. Your donation today will have double the impact in making lasting change for farmed animals.
Thank you so much for your support. This work is only possible with you by our side, and I know that together we can do great things for animals.
With gratitude,
Cheryl Leahy
Executive Director
P.S. For a donation of $100 or more, you'll be entered to win one of five copies of HIDDEN: Animals in the Anthropocene by Jo-Anne McArthur and Keith Wilson. Joaquin Phoenix, who wrote the foreword for this book says "The photojournalists represented in HIDDEN have entered some of the darkest, most unsettling places in the world. The images they have captured are a searing reminder of our unpardonable behavior towards animals and will serve as beacons of change for years to come."
Thank you to Dr Bronner’s for their ongoing support of Animal Outlook’s Farm Transitions program.
As a non-profit organization, Animal Outlook relies on donations from caring, generous people like you. Every dollar matters. Your support makes a world of difference to farmed animals.
