Dear friend,

When we were tasked with coordinating the Membership Assembly, we knew it
would be a huge undertaking and a pivotal moment in GGJ’s 17-year
history. This is the highest decision-making body of our alliance, the
first all-member convening we’ve held since the beginning of the COVID-19
pandemic, and a marker of our transition from a convergence model into an
alliance that also forwards a shared campaign.

Our MEMBERSHIP ASSEMBLY [5] exemplified democratic decision-making and
surfaced a multitude of possibilities for the FAREconomy — a Feminist,
Anti-racist, Regenerative Economy — we’re cultivating as a political
project. Members voted to approve proposals outlining work plans and goals
for the coming years and also elected a new COORDINATING COMMITTEE [6] of
member organizations that will implement a new governance model. These
WORKING PROPOSALS AND GOVERNANCE STRUCTURE [7] arose from a months-long,
deep consultation process with member organizations in early 2021, were
shaped and refined by member leaders at our Program Leadership Team
gathering in May 2022, and presented to our full membership for discussion
and approval in October.

In this final week of the year, we’re filled with gratitude for the
Membership Assembly process and experience, as well as all the work we’ve
been able to achieve together in 2022 (see below for some highlights!). To
our members, GGJ staff and contractors, allies, donors, and everyone who
made this year possible, thank you so much!

We’re returning in 2023 to embark on a journey of seeding a political
formation school and developing a campaign that divests in harm and invests
in care through the framework of a FAREconomy. WILL YOU MAKE A DONATION

We welcomed a new Co-Deputy Director of Organizational Strategy, Roxanne
Lawson, who came to GGJ with a 20-year history of working for economic,
racial, and environmental justice. Read more about Roxanne’s
IMPRESSIVE BACKGROUND [8], what brought her to GGJ in this moment and her
RECENT REFLECTIONS [9] on her first Membership Assembly at GGJ.

GGJ members and organizers were in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt as part of the
[11]IT TAKES ROOTS [12] frontline delegation to the 27th UNFCCC Conference
of the Parties (COP27). The delegation, which included CLIMATE JUSTICE
ALLIANCE [13], INDIGENOUS CLIMATE ACTION [14], INDIGENOUS ENVIRONMENTAL
NETWORK [15], JUST TRANSITION ALLIANCE [11], and THE BLACK HIVE AT MOVEMENT
FOR BLACK LIVES [16], demanded climate reparations from Global North
countries to pay the climate debt they owe to impacted communities, respect
for human rights and Indigenous rights, and an end to fossil fuels and
false climate solutions.

During Colombia’s presidential election, we collaborated with
AFRORESISTANCE [18] to send the LARGEST-EVER DELEGATION OF TRAINED
ELECTORAL OBSERVERS IN THE HISTORY OF THE COLOMBIAN ELECTORAL OBSERVER
MISSION [17]. This historic election seated former guerrilla fighter
Gustavo Petro as President, along with the country’s first Black woman
Vice President, grassroots environmental activist Francia Márquez. Our
group, comprised of 19 Black and brown women and femmes, helped to protect
the May 29 election amid concerns of electoral fraud, physical threats, and
intimidation of voters and family members. The mission brought together
human rights experts, racial and gender justice activists, grassroots
organizers, cultural workers, attorneys, and journalists — including GGJ
member leaders and our National Green New Deal Organizer, Margaret Kwateng.

In June, we were ENERGIZED BY THE SOLIDARITY [20] between Latin American
and Caribbean countries, banding together to protest the Biden
administration’s exclusionary Summit of the Americas in Los Angeles. At
the parallel PEOPLE’S SUMMIT FOR DEMOCRACY [19], our GGJ delegation of
members and organizers found inspiration in the video addresses from
popular movement leaders across the Americas, as well as deepening
relationships with Bertha Zúñiga Cáceres from COPINH [21],
representatives from ALBAMOVIMIENTOS [22], BYP100 [23] (Black Youth Project
100), and local organizers from DIGNITY & POWER NOW [24]. GGJ’s
delegation included representatives from new member organizations AFRICAN
BUREAU OF IMMIGRATION & SOCIAL AFFAIRS (ABISA) [25], EQUALITY LABS [26],
and FREEDOM, INC. [27]

Inspired by the success of last year’s Berta Cáceres International
Feminist Organizing School (IFOS), we launched a FEMINIST POPULAR EDUCATION
GUIDEBOOK [29] providing an overview of the methodologies and organizing
processes that emerged from our 2021 School. The guidebook touches on what
it takes to organize an international, multi-language, online school during
a global pandemic, and explores aspects of our curriculum. We also held a
virtual, months-long IFOS School for Facilitators this year to equip
grassroots feminists with deeper political and pedagogical understanding of
creating effective feminist popular education spaces.

Queridx amigx,

Cuando se nos encomendó la tarea de coordinar la Asamblea de Membresía
sabíamos que sería una gran empresa y un momento crucial en los 17 años
de historia de GGJ. Este es el órgano superior de toma de decisiones de
nuestra alianza, la primera reunión de toda la membresía desde que
comenzó la pandemia de COVID-19, y un momento que marca nuestra
transición de un modelo de convergencia a una alianza que también
promueve una campaña común.

Nuestra ASAMBLEA DE MIEMBRXS [5] ejemplificó la toma de decisiones
democrática y sacó a la luz una multitud de posibilidades para una
Economía Feminista, Antirracista y Regenerativa — FAREconomy — que
estamos cultivando como proyecto político. Lxs miembrxs votaron para
aprobar propuestas que esbozan planes de trabajo y objetivos para los
próximos años y también eligieron a un NUEVO COMITÉ COORDINADOR [6] de
las organizaciones miembro que implementará un nuevo modelo de gobernanza.
Estas PROPUESTAS DE TRABAJO Y ESTRUCTURA DE GOBERNANZA [30] surgieron de un
proceso de consulta profunda de meses de duración con las organizaciones
miembro a principios de 2021, fueron moldeadas y refinadas por líderes
miembrxs en nuestra reunión del Equipo de Liderazgo de Programa en mayo
2022, y presentado a la membresía entera para su discusión y aprobación
en octubre.

En esta última semana del año, sentimos mucha gratitud por el proceso y
la experiencia de la Asamblea de Miembrxs, así como todo el trabajo que
hemos logrado hacer juntxs en 2022 (¡Vea algunos logros destacados a
continuación!). A nuestrxs miembrxs, personal y contratistas de GGJ,
aliadxs, donantes, y a todas las personas que hicieron posible este año,
¡muchas gracias!

Volveremos en 2023 para iniciar el trayecto de sembrar una escuela de
formación política y desarrollar una campaña que desinvierta en el daño
e invierta en el cuidado a través del marco de una economía justa -
FAREconomy. ¿HARÁ UNA DONACIÓN HOY PARA APOYAR ESTA NUEVA FASE DE

Aunque los desafíos e injusticias del capitalismo, el imperialismo, el

Dimos la bienvenida a una nueva Co-Subdirectora de Estrategia
Organizacional, Roxanne Lawson, que llegó a GGJ con un historial de 20
años de trabajo por la justicia económica, racial y ambiental. Puede leer

Miembros y organizadorxs de GGJ estuvieron en Sharm El Sheikh, Egipto como
parte de la delegación de primera línea de SE NECESITAN RAÍCES [12] a la
27ª Conferencia de las Partes de la CMNUCC (COP27). La delegación, que
incluyó CLIMATE JUSTICE ALLIANCE [13], INDIGENOUS CLIMATE ACTION
[14], INDIGENOUS ENVIRONMENTAL NETWORK [15], JUST TRANSITION ALLIANCE
[11], y THE BLACK HIVE DE MOVEMENT FOR BLACK LIVES [16], exigió a los
países del Norte Global reparaciones climáticas para pagar la deuda
climática que tienen con las comunidades afectadas, el respeto de los
derechos humanos y los derechos indígenas, y el fin de los combustibles
fósiles y las falsas soluciones climáticas.

Durante las elecciones presidenciales de Colombia, colaboramos con
AFRORESISTENCIA [18] para enviar a LA DELEGACIÓN MÁS GRANDE DE
OBSERVADORAS ELECTORALES ENTRENADAS EN LA HISTORIA DE LA MISIÓN DE
OBSERVACIÓN ELECTORAL DE COLOMBIA [17]. Esta histórica elección instaló
al exguerrillero Gustavo Petro como presidente, junto con la primera mujer
negra como vicepresidenta del país, la activista ambiental de base Francia
Márquez. Nuestro grupo, compuesto por 19 mujeres y femmes negras y de
color, ayudó a proteger las elecciones del 29 de mayo frente a
preocupaciones de fraude electoral, amenazas físicas e intimidación de
votantes y familiares. La misión reunió a expertas en derechos humanos,
activistas por la justicia racial y de género, organizadoras de base,
trabajadoras culturales, abogadas y periodistas — entre ellas líderes
miembros de GGJ y nuestra Organizadora Nacional del Nuevo Acuerdo Verde,
Margaret Kwateng.

En Junio, SENTIMOS LA ENERGÍA SOLIDARIA [20] entre los países
latinoamericanos y caribeños, que se unieron para protestar contra la
excluyente Cumbre de las Américas de la administración Biden en Los
Ángeles. En la paralela CUMBRE DE LOS PUEBLOS POR LA DEMOCRACIA [19],
nuestra delegación de miembrxs y organizadorxs de GGJ encontró
inspiración en los discursos en video de líderes de movimientos populares
en las Américas, así como en profundizar las relaciones con Bertha
Zúñiga Cáceres de COPINH [21], representantes de ALBAMOVIMIENTOS [22],
BYP100 [23] (Black Youth Project 100), y organizadorxs locales de DIGNITY &
POWER NOW [24]. La delegación de GGJ incluyó a representantes de las

Inspirada por el éxito del año pasado de la Escuela Internacional para la
Organización Feminista Berta Cáceres (IFOS), publicamos una GUÍA
FEMINISTA DE EDUCACIÓN POPULAR [29] que proporciona una visión general de
las metodologías y procesos de organización que surgieron de nuestra
Escuela 2021. La guía aborda lo que se necesita para organizar una escuela
en línea, internacional y multilingüe, durante una pandemia, y explora
aspectos de nuestro plan de estudios. Este año también celebramos una
Escuela IFOS virtual para facilitadores que duró varios meses para equipar
a las feministas de base con una comprensión política y pedagógica más
profunda de la creación de espacios efectivos de educación feminista
popular efectiva.
