In case you need a refresher, the expanded Child Tax Credit is the largest tax cut for the middle class and working families in recent memory. It reduced child poverty from 9.7% to 5.2% in just one year. 5.3 million people, including 2.9 million children, were lifted out of poverty because of the expanded Child Tax Credit. As you can see, the impact of this policy was life-changing for so many people. However, when the tax credit expired in January, 3.7 million children fell back into poverty. Now, those kids and families are waiting to see if we will take action for the greater good, or fail to make an impact. We know what should be done, and the data is clear. Dollar for dollar, the expanded Child Tax Credit is one of the best investments that I have ever had the privilege to vote for. And we need to reinstate it.
No kid should be left behind due to circumstances they can’t control. These children are the future of America, and we should do everything we possibly can to support the next generation of dreamers and leaders and put an end to the national tragedy that is child poverty.
