Dear People For the American Way member,

What a year it has been! I turned 100 this year, and it has been a joy to
hear from so many people whose paths have crossed mine. I am grateful for
all that went into celebrations of my first 100 years, and now I am
looking ahead to what comes next for me, my loved ones, and our beloved
country.

Some of what I see is worrisome: a rising tide of antisemitism,
authoritarianism, white nationalism, and Christian nationalism. Our
country needs us at this moment. [ [link removed] ]So I hope you will join me in making a
generous year-end gift to People For the American Way. >>

Together we can and do make a big difference. Donald Trump is no longer
president. Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson sits on the U.S. Supreme Court.
The fear that a “red wave” would wash over us gave way to relief when
voters rejected many far-right extremists. The torch is being passed to an
inspiring group of young leaders, including People For the American Way’s
incoming president, Svante Myrick.

These are all signs of hope and promise. But we can’t take our victories
for granted. Promoting truth, justice, and the American Way requires
ongoing individual commitment and collective effort.

Pushing back on bigotry, resisting voter suppression, exposing extremism,
making our communities safer—these are not things any of us can do
effectively on our own. But through People For the American Way, I partner
with fellow Americans to defend our freedoms wherever and whenever they
are at risk.
