John,

In the months after my sweet little Daniel was murdered at Sandy Hook Elementary, I went from congressional office to congressional office, showing them photos of my gap-toothed little boy and urging them to pass background checks legislation.

Then, I watched as some senators voted to stop the bill. That defeat crushed my heart, but I refused to give up hope. I refused to listen to those who said that if gun safety reforms couldn't pass after Sandy Hook, then they never could.

But now, more than seven years later, we can't accept any more excuses – not with more children being murdered every day.

We must demand that this is the year our elected leaders pass – not block – legislation to prevent school shootings. But if we're going to send a strong enough message, I need 25,000 people to join me in telling Congress they are sick of inaction. Can I count on you to sign our petition now, John?

Nothing can bring my sweet little Daniel back, but I can protect other children like him from gun violence. That's why it's crucial that you join us in taking action now, at the start of a new year, and urge Congress to act.

We must call on our lawmakers to finally protect all of our children from gun violence. Thank you for making your voice heard today.

Mark Barden (Daniel's father)
