Dear John,
They say a picture is worth a thousand words.
But to tell the story of MAP’s impact in 2022, just one picture wouldn’t be enough!
Below are some of my favorite moments from this past year – none of which would have been possible without the special community of lawmakers, partners, staff, and volunteers who make up the MAP network. Thank you for being a part of this community and for working to advance a vision of a better, more collaborative democracy.
MAP'S YEAR WRAPPED
We kicked off the year in Kansas...

We kicked the year off with MAP’s Kansas Future Caucus, bringing together young entrepreneurs from across Kansas to share the challenges and opportunities they faced as business owners, and discussing areas for collaboration with state legislators.
…then we kept traveling the country!

We helped lawmakers from Georgia to Arkansas to Vermont launch their Future Caucuses, build relationships across the aisle, and engage the media around their initiatives.
We served as the home base for young state lawmakers who made their way to the nation’s capital.

Bringing lawmakers together across state and party lines is one of our favorite things to do! We hosted several DC convenings this year which included state legislators from Vermont, Florida, North Carolina, Oklahoma, and West Virginia.
And then, we left DC to bring lawmakers from across the country to Denver, CO for a weekend of training, leadership development, and relationship building!
In July, we hosted the 2022 Future Summit – the nation’s largest bipartisan gathering of young state legislators in Denver, Colorado.

It was great to be back in-person for the annual event! Nearly 50 legislators from across the country came together to affirm their belief in collaborative policymaking and express their intention to work across the partisan divide to create a more functional democracy.
Speaking of being back in person… the growing MAP team created plenty of opportunities to come together IRL and deepen our own relationships with one another.

Through picnics, happy hours, and even mini golf – the MAP team and board of directors were thrilled to be back connecting and collaborating with each other once again.
Legislators showed up to share innovative policy ideas at MAP’s nationwide advisory council meetings.

This year, MAP members from across the country shared best practices with one another through our bipartisan policy forums. Members of Advisory Councils on topics like the future of work and criminal justice reform led a rich exchange of ideas, through meetings attended by a bipartisan cohort of legislatures from the State Future Caucus Network.
“The CJRAC’s meetings on juvenile justice and youth incarceration were a key area of navigation for me on these issues. I cannot express how grateful I am for the opportunity to have participated,” said Rep. Taylor Small (D-VT) in one of the meetings.
In November, we saw collaborative, pragmatic policy-making rewarded at the ballot box.

Congressman-elect Zach Nunn (R-IA) won a tight race this November – positioning his work as a young state lawmaker to become a member of Congress. Rep.-elect Nunn was the founder and co-chair of the Iowa Future Caucus.

We shifted the narrative – and told our story in cool ways!

This year, we landed 100+ media hits including features in Teen Vogue, The Hill, POLITICO, and The Washington Examiner . We were also able to land local press opportunities to highlight the work of our legislators in their respective states!
To cap it all off, we recognized empathetic, solutions-driven leadership at our fifth annual Rising Star Awards!

Rep. Aaron Pilkington (R-AR) and Rep. Jeremy Gray (D-AL) were named our 2022 Rising Star Awardees. The Cherisse Eatmon Collective Impact Award was awarded to the Oklahoma Future Caucus. It was a night to remember with special guests Congressman Blake Moore (R-UT), co-chair of MAP’s Congressional Future Caucus, and along with Robby Soave and Briahna Joy Gray, co-hosts of Rising on The Hill TV.
All of this could not have happened without the tireless efforts of the MAP staff! Their good humor, creativity, and resilience are what make this work possible.

2023 is full of potential, but MAP needs your continued support to get there. In this season of giving, please help us reach MAP’s end of year giving goal with 25 new donations by December 31st. Your gift will support our ability to educate, engage, and mobilize the future-focused leaders who work to create a healthier democracy for us all.
