Wow. What a year. As we say goodbye to 2022 and welcome 2023, I wanted to make sure you know what an incredible year you made possible. As we turn the corner toward 2023, here’s a rundown of some of 2022’s highlights.

Re-electing Gov. Tony Evers and Attorney General Josh Kaul
First and foremost, I truly believe you saved our democracy on Election Day. With Gov. Evers’ re-election, you maintained his crucial veto power. Attorney General Kaul will help keep Wisconsin from veering onto a dangerous path of increased voter disenfranchisement. You also provided a light at the end of the gerrymandering tunnel Wisconsin is stuck in.[[link removed]]
Electing conservation champs with our biggest program yet
[[link removed]] Wisconsin Conservation Voters won all but one of our priority races and held off a veto-proof legislative majority. In almost every place where we knocked on doors, ran an ambitious mail and digital ad program, sent texts to voters, and engaged voters in their communities, we won.
This means more than protecting the veto – it means we helped elect climate leaders who will push for pro-conservation and clean water agendas. This wouldn’t have been possible without your donations and volunteer efforts that allowed us to knock on almost 390,000 doors.
Federal and local progress
From its beginnings as Build Back Better to its final passage as the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), the U.S. passed the largest investment in climate action ever, putting the country on the path to cutting climate pollution 40 percent by 2030, with a significant emphasis on racial justice.[[link removed]]
With the passage of PFAS standards [[link removed]] for drinking water this past spring, Wisconsin took an important step forward in protecting your water from these highly toxic chemicals [[link removed]] . Now, as those standards take effect and municipalities begin testing for PFAS in drinking water, we are beginning to see just how widespread the problem is, and how much more work we need to do to protect the health of Wisconsinites.
After years working shoulder-to-shoulder with students, labor members, disability advocates, Wisconsin Conservation Voters members, and many others, we were able to expand early voting in the City of Green Bay [[link removed]] . The very limited options for early voting in Green Bay had long
been a concern of local residents and students. The combined organizing efforts of these diverse groups led to a unanimous vote to expand early voting hours and access to the ballot box.
What's next?
The bottom line is we ran the most robust election campaign in our organization’s history and re-elected a governor who promised to defend our freedom to vote, protect our waters, and fight for a sustainable Wisconsin – and who has delivered on that promise.
Now, we set our sights on April 4, 2023, when we have the opportunity to change the state supreme court. Electing a pro-democracy and pro-conservation justice who rejects the influence of polluting special interests and anti-democracy forces will ensure Wisconsin can progress away from the politics of division and toward a cleaner, more equitable future.
It is clear the people of Wisconsin want leaders who will work for equitable solutions to the climate crisis and rebuild a democracy in Wisconsin that works for everyone. The first thing you can do is support our work with a generous year-end gift. Your support has translated into meaningful change for our state and we’ll need you again in 2023.
