It’s not just patients who travel far: Caregivers have to make the trek too.

For PIH Lesotho's Chief Medical Officer Dr. Afom Andom, the journey from the capital to the health center involves a seven-hour drive over rocky mountain passes, a PIH-supported boat ride over the Senqu River, then a steep hike up the adjoining hill.

We’re proud that our team goes the distance for Mareekelitsoe, her baby, and all the families that rely on Lebakeng Health Center for essential care. But make no mistake, it is an injustice that, for so many families, hours of walking is the best option to receive care. Our progress is real, but there is so much more to do.
