No images? Click here Dear John, Season’s greetings to you! For many people, the festive season is about family. We want to celebrate with you today by letting you know about a handful of projects where family is at the heart! Empowering familiesIn Cambodia we are working with communities that have limited access to electricity to install solar power systems in family homes. This enables mothers to access water at home rather than spending hours every day travelling to source it. It means parents can refrigerate food and light their homes, so they can better support and care for their children. Family savingsWe have helped to establish community savings schemes in countries from Ethiopia to Malawi. These schemes strengthen families and communities, providing an effective way for women to independently save and access money. Many women in the communities we work with have limited access to, and control of, money and resources. When they or their children need medicine or essentials, they often have to ask their spouse or male relatives. These saving schemes empower women so they can protect and provide for themselves and their families! Midwives put families firstLike so many health workers across the world, midwives in Myanmar continue to support families in their time of need. Throughout winter we support midwives to reach and care for mothers and children in remote mountainous communities. Our team treks for weeks through snow-covered mountains to deliver essential medical supplies to health workers and clinics. Every family should have access to the essentials for good health. Whether this is clean water, a sustainable source of income to pay for nutritious food and medicine, or being able to reach health workers. For millions of families, these essentials are denied. By supporting Health Poverty Action you are helping communities across Africa, Asia and Latin America build healthier, more prosperous families. Warm wishes, Siaffa Bunduka |
