This week, Fox News and Republicans in Congress decided to mock and question Representative Ilhan Omar’s lived experience, and the trauma she continues to live with.
Ilhan was forced to flee from her home to escape war when she was just eight years old.
There should be no hierarchy of hurt. No one has the right to invalidate the trauma felt by another, whether that trauma came from fighting on a battlefield, as a child fleeing in the face of conflict, or from the epidemic of gun violence right here in the United States.
I am proud to call Ilhan my friend. We are both committed to serving the people of our communities and with your support, we can make sure Ilhan stays right where she belongs.
