President Preckwinkle today announced a major update to the Cook County 2010-2020 Census Demographics App. The updated interactive map makes it easier to identify a variety of demographic changes that took place in Cook County on a census-tract level between 2015 and 2020.
The updated map, now called "Everyone Counts," includes changes in age, ancestry, income, education and more. The original version of the app was created with the initial data released from the 2020 Census. The census authorities have since released a trove of additional data through the American Communities Survey (ACS) that Cook County makes available in the updated interactive map.
"Understanding how Cook County is changing over the years is crucial for policy making and invaluable for our residents looking to learn more about their communities," said Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle. “This app can also be used by the hundreds of municipalities, school districts and other units of government within Cook County to find ways to meet the needs of residents.”
Everyone Counts lets visitors see, for example, whether the number of seniors residing in a particular suburban municipality have decreased or increased, and by how many. Visitors can see the whole county or individual county commissioner districts, townships or zip codes. The app includes median income, population below poverty line, unemployed population and other key statistics.

The Village of Matteson President Sheila Chalmers-Currin and Rich Township Supervisor Calvin Jordan will be joined by U.S. Congresswoman Robin Kelly, Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle will be joined by over 700 incredibly happy children in a Successful holiday giveaway and programming that has made its way to the south suburbs.
“Christmas in the Wards” is an uplifting community program that serves over 40 Chicago wards and neighboring Chicago Southland and Proviso Township communities with record-breaking holiday giveaways. This year, the Village of Matteson has been selected as a breakout suburban location endorsed by this program.
The arrival of “Christmas in the Wards” is vital as inflation worldwide has burdened some with holiday expenses. Mayor Sheila Chalmers- Currin is excited that the very “Great City of Matteson” has added dynamic programming to help provide relief for children in great need.
“It is miraculous when the heart of children and others are at the forefront. It is quite refreshing and needed. To join forces with “Christmas in the Wards” is a tremendous honor, and we are so grateful to be added to their team. Southland residents have survived a pandemic, made it through experiencing COVID- 19, and remained tremendously optimistic despite economic hardship. Chicago’s longest running lights festival is back with millions of twinkling lights to brighten up the holiday season.
“Holiday Magic” features over two million twinkling LED lights with the “Sea of Lights” returning with a new design of two miles of colorful lights synchronized to music on the zoo’s entire West mall.
There will also be the 600-foot-long “Tunnel of Lights” that guests can walk through along with a 41-foot-tall tree lit with LED lights to greet the guests as they enter through the north entrance.
Along with the lighted festivities, many animal habitats will be open for the public from the Pachyderm House, Big Cats to reptiles and Birds. Kids will also be able to deposit their written holiday greetings and drawing for animals in a designated box as well as drop off letters to Santa Clause in a giant red box on the zoo’s south mall.
Guests can take a spin on the skating rink, located on the East mall. The cost for unlimited time for all skaters on the rink is $7. A limited number of skates are available to rent for a $5 fee. Skaters are welcome to bring their own skates.
The Lights festival sis returning from November 25-27 and 30, and December 1-4, 7-11, 14-18 and 26-31 from 3:00 to 9:00 p.m.
