The holidays in San Francisco have never been about presents or things you can touch – it’s always been the feeling of home and love that has been so fulfilling during this time of year.

As a kid, I could feel the holidays through my grandmother’s delicious sweet potato pies, through the stories and Christmas music that would fill the neighborhood, and the glow and warmth of the lights that got brighter by the day.  

Now, visiting the holiday celebrations, tree lightings, and skating rinks across the city as Mayor reminds me of the excitement I felt as a child, as the holiday spirit surrounded our neighborhoods.

We face significant challenges ahead. But I can also feel the hope and joy San Franciscans are sharing this season, spending cherished time with family and friends as we head into the new year. Let us meet 2023 with a sense of renewed focus, hope and vision for all San Franciscans.
