John,
Kari Lake’s election lawsuit ended with a final trial on Thursday.
Lake’s legal team focused on issues with printed ballots at some of the polling places, however, they were unable to prove the intentional disenfranchisement of Republican voters.
Much like in the 2020 election, Maricopa county, Arizona, was much of the focus as it houses a majority of the state’s voting population.
Via Jacques Billeaud, the AP:
“Her attorneys pointed to a witness who examined ballots on behalf of her campaign and discovered 14 ballots that had 19-inch images of the ballot printed on 20-inch paper, meaning the ballots wouldn’t be read by a tabulator.”
“They say about 1,200 ballots were affected by turning on the feature and that those ballots were duplicated so that they could be read by a tabulator. Ultimately, these ballots were counted, officials said.”
Another loose claim made by Lake’s team was by a witness relying on exit polling as a definitive measure of those that were “unable” to vote on election day. However, this measure was claimed simply by those who did not finish the process of the exit poll itself.
These claims were a part of 10 claims originally brought forth in the lawsuit, 8 of which were dismissed by the judge in this case, Peter Thompson.
Overall, lawyers in the state, as well as election officials do not believe the evidence brought forth in the case proves any intentional tampering or ill will on the part of the defense.
Kari Lake is simply one part of a larger movement to discredit the election process, as well as challenging losses when they occur for MAGA Republicans only.
Just as in the case of Donald Trump, no sufficient evidence has been offered to substantiate the claims made about election interference or “stealing” votes.
John, it's going to take all of us to fight back against the ongoing efforts of MAGA-Republicans to undermine American Democracy. Will you please join with us by chipping in a small amount to support our daily efforts to win America's heartland for Democrats?
Thank you so much!
