Trump just gutted our bedrock environmental protections

Friend — this is devastating. The League of Conservation Voters is learning more and more about the fallout of the Trump administration's Thursday announcement on the proposed gutting of the National Environmental Policy Act.

Not only would this evisceration of a 50-year old bedrock environmental policy push through pipeline and mining projects — it would allow companies to conduct THEIR OWN environmental review — independent of federal scientists and regulators.

This means a company like TransCanada could conduct its own environmental review of the impacts of its Keystone XL pipeline project.

We can't let this happen without a fight.
We're mobilizing to flood House and Senate offices with letters. We're organizing environmental activists in key states. We're going to overwhelm federal agencies with public comments. The only way we can run a campaign like that is with your help.

Help the League of Conservation Voters fight back against this blatant giveaway to polluters. The most urgent way to help is to renew your LCV membership. Even $5 can make a difference. We need you in this fight »

A major donor has also put up a $500,000 fund for campaigns like this one — but it will only unlock if we get to 10,000 donations by the end of the month.

Friend — in reaching that goal, small donations count the same as big ones. Renewing your membership for just $5 could make the difference between funding some major environmental campaigns this year, or totally scaling back.

AND, if you make a donation of $35 or more, you'll get your choice of one of these awesome t-shirts to show your environmental pride:
Environmental Pride

This rollback of NEPA is designed to silence the voices of tens of millions of Americans affected by federal projects and deny the devastation of our changing climate. There will now be almost zero public input into these environmental reviews.

Agencies will not have to examine whether a pipeline, mine, or other fossil fuel project would worsen climate change. It also means there will not be any requirement to understand how or whether a road or bridge in a coastal area would be threatened by sea-level rise. This is one of the worst attacks on sound environmental policy by any president. Ever.

The rollback of NEPA comes just as the League of Conservation Voters ramps up our 2020 membership drive — in one of the most important years for climate action ever.

Here's where things stand:

2020 JANUARY MEMBERSHIP DRIVE
  • GOAL: 10,000 donations
  • PROGRESS: 16% to goal
A donor will give $500,000 if we meet our goal.

FOR IMMEDIATE REVIEW:
Please confirm your membership.
I hope we can count you in. President Trump is making this crisis worse, putting our health at risk, denying climate change and taking us backwards on clean air and clean water. We will fight like hell to keep these proposed changes from becoming law.

We can't let Trump completely gut NEPA without a fight — but the window to stop him is short. And right now, resources are running low — we need your help.

Don't sit this one out, friend. Renew your LCV membership for just $5 today »

Thank you — for everything you do for the environment.

Sincerely,

LCV Policy Team
