Thank YOU for speaking out!
We sent out an email earlier this week alerting you of the $1.7 Trillion Pelosi-Schumer Omnibus spending bill that our two Mississippi Senators, Roger Wicker and Cindy Hyde-Smith, voted to advance for a final vote. A vote to advance a bill is a signal that they support the bill and plan to vote for the final version.
There were 19 total Republicans that voted in the initial vote along with every Democrat in the Senate.
But YOU spoke out. YOU used our action center to send over 1,000 emails to our Senators demanding them vote NO on the frivolous spending bill. Many of you also called the offices of the Senators to let them know of your disapproval of their vote.
In the end, the bill passed with 18 Republicans betraying their party's principles and voting for the bill. This spending bill will lead to higher inflation and undoubtedly extend the economic recession we are currently facing. But there was one less Senator in the final vote than in the initial vote.
That vote was Mississippi Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith. Because of YOU bombarding Hyde-Smith’s office, she ultimately switched her vote to a NO on final passage.
Roger Wicker still voted with the Democrats, but the battle to save our country isn’t over. Wicker will face re-election in 2024 and the Mississippi Freedom Caucus will be sure to remind you of Wicker’s vote and his betrayal of your principles. His vote went against the voice of thousands of conservative Mississippians.
Thank you again for speaking out and taking a stand. We may have lost this battle because of Wicker's betrayal, but we won a small victory by forcing Hyde-Smith to change her vote.
