Fellow Conservative,
Christmas is upon us, and we at Heritage Action wish you a Merry Christmas! We hope it is a time for you to take a step back and spend some time with your friends and family.
Once again, the legislative session in Washington ran right up till Christmas. Yesterday afternoon, Congress passed a $1.85 TRILLION omnibus to fund the government through September 2023. This was a disastrous package and it’s a product of a broken system and irresponsible legislators.
For months, Heritage Action and our Sentinel activists have been forcefully opposing an omnibus. We knew that major legislation in the lame-duck session of Congress would be a bad deal—and it is. That is why we included the omnibus vote on our legislative scorecard. <[link removed]>
It is hard to overstate what a bad bill this is. It leaves our border wide open, while spending billions overseas to secure the borders of other nations. This bill’s massive 10.6% increase in domestic spending will only sustain the high inflation we’re all experiencing. This spending locks in Biden’s agenda for another 9 months—even after voters rejected that agenda last month.
This 4,000+ page bill was released only a few days ago. There was no meaningful debate, and not enough time to read it. This is an astounding level of hypocrisy with regards to spending transparency. Remember, it was this very same Congress that gave the IRS authority to see detailed transactions in your bank account to monitor how you spend your money!
All of this said, it’s important not to let this bill overshadow all the great work accomplished in 2022. Numerous other bad bills were stopped (in fact—the activists reading this email played a key role in defeating the EAGLE Act last week). We continue to grow the conservative movement, recruit, and train more activists.
And at the state level, historic policies were enacted. Arizona passed universal school choice. Multiple states began the pushback against a globalist ESG agenda. And countless lives were saved by passing pro-life legislation in the wake of the Supreme Court overturning Roe v. Wade.
Thank you again for all your work and support in 2022 and we look forward to the year ahead.
P.S. — This will be our last Saturday newsletter of 2022. But keep reading for more legislative details and highlights from this past week.

A Very Bad Omnibus
With this singular and massive omnibus spending bill, Congress ignored its own rules and process for creating a budget, holding debate, utilizing the proper committees and subcommittees, and passing multiple bills that fund the various departments and agencies.
Pelosi and Schumer led the backroom negotiations, with no input from the new incoming Republican House majority. It was done out of the eyes of the American people, and passed two days before Christmas. No Republican should have ever voted for this bill!

Spread throughout the 4,155 page Democrat wish list <[link removed]> is funding <[link removed]> for:
- $76.3 billion for DHS to process illegal immigrants into the country faster
- $5 billion in Democrat earmarks
- $45 billion in aid to Ukraine (but not our borders)
- $2 billion to combat “climate change”
- $2.3 million to market Biden’s attempt to forgive student loans
- $560 million for the Legal Services Corporation
- And more…
For the next two years, Heritage Action will be there every step of the way to work hand-in-hand with the grassroots and fight for conservative policy priorities <[link removed]> and against the habitual spending and radical anti-American priorities of the Left. It’s imperative to restore some sense of fiscal sanity to Washington, D.C.
