MANDATORY ANIMAL TESTING HAS ENDED IN THE U.S!
Dear John,
THIS IS MONUMENTAL! The U.S. Congress just passed the FDA Modernization Act 2.0. The Act will end the requirement that experimental drugs be tested on animals, instead allowing for non-animal testing.
President Biden is expected to sign the Act, which is part of the larger omnibus spending bill, shortly. Until now, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration mandated that experimental drugs must be tested on animals before they are used on humans in clinical trials.
We have been fighting against animal testing since LCA was founded in 1984. In the late 80's, we took a camera crew into UCLA's Brain Research Institute, where cats were being tortured as research subjects. We have continued to expose the cruelty of animals in research by going undercover at animal research suppliers and animal research facilities.
The life of an animal at a research laboratory is a horrific nightmare. Watch this LCA undercover video to understand how important this bill is - "The day in the life of a dog at ITR labs."
Today is a victory! But there is still work to be done. We will never stop fighting on behalf of animals.
