Title 42 has been critical in helping U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) from being completely overwhelmed at the border.
I visited the Central Processing Center in El Paso where more than 4,600 migrants were being held in a facility with a maximum capacity of 1,040. Due to this overflow, thousands of migrants are either being released into the community or being housed in public buildings such as school facilities, the convention center and the airport.
If Title 42 is rescinded, additional crossings will stretch border communities beyond their limits. I will keep pushing to keep this policy in place for the sake of our national security.
