Friend — Before we sign off for the holidays, I want to say one thing: THANK YOU.

It’s because of supporters like you that 2022 has been the most effective year yet for climate action and our movement.

You helped us press leaders to take bold action on the existential crisis of climate change. You helped build a powerful grassroots coalition that spanned the nation and demanded strong federal climate action, which created the political will for Congress to pass historic legislation. You turned out to vote in the midterm elections, expanding pro-environmental leadership in the Senate.

Here are just a few of our movement’s biggest wins from 2022:

After a decade of work, we passed historic climate legislation — the Inflation Reduction Act — into law.

This year, our nation made truly historic progress to protect people and the planet. In August, Congress passed and President Biden signed into law the Inflation Reduction Act, which contains roughly $370 billion in transformative investments for clean energy, energy security, and environmental justice.

The law is the most significant climate bill in our nation’s history and the single largest investment the U.S. has made toward solving the climate crisis.

The pundits counted us out — after the Senate failed to act on climate in 2021, they said we couldn’t do it in a contentious election year. But you never gave up, and neither did we. It was due to all of your messages and calls to action that Congress ultimately passed this monumental bill.

You turned out to vote, expanding environmental leadership in the Senate and creating a “green wave” in the states.

Voter support for candidates who back strong climate action was in abundant evidence this year, as against long odds, political headwinds, and historical trends, voters turned out and delivered a clear victory for climate and democracy in the 2022 elections.

Thanks to your votes, there will be pro-environment leadership in the U.S. Senate next year once again.

And thanks to the work of our state affiliates, there was a “green wave” in critical state and local elections — an outcome that will expand the landscape for state- and local-level climate and clean energy progress across the country.

We expanded protections for public lands with the historic designation of Camp Hale-Continental Divide National Monument.

After years of hard work, LCV supporters like you helped secure a big policy win to protect public lands when President Biden designated Camp Hale-Continental Divide National Monument in Colorado.

The first monument designation of President Biden’s administration, the Camp Hale-Continental Divide National Monument honors the extensive history of the military and outdoor recreation industry in the region, and will preserve ecological resources and wildlife habitats that are also essential to fighting the climate crisis.

And there’s still more conservation progress to come! President Biden announced he will soon designate Avi Kwa Ame National Monument in Nevada — a direct result of the tireless efforts of tribes, local leaders, and activists who worked collaboratively over the years to carefully craft a boundary that will fully honor the Tribes’ proposals. The monument will honor the sacredness of Avi Kwa Ame, or Spirit Mountain, while also supporting the economic growth of surrounding communities.

All of this — and more — is thanks to your support. We are so grateful to you for standing with us.

From all of us at LCV — we wish you safe and happy holidays.

Onward,
