Thank you for being an integral part of Animal Outlook’s mission: building a better tomorrow for all animals. Whether you are supporting undercover investigations or legal advocacy, corporate and food system reform or vegan outreach, having you by our side is making real differences for farmed animals. With your support, it’s been a busy year standing up for animals through legal advocacy. ([link removed])

This year, thanks to your support, our legal team fought for animals by:
* Defending Prop 12, California’s law against extreme confinement, which sets minimum space requirements for egg-laying hens, mother pigs and baby cows. The law is being challenged by the meat industry in the Supreme Court.

* Achieving a victory in Pennsylvania appellate court over rampant dairy cruelty, uncovered by our investigation ([link removed]) . The state appellate court’s order requires the lower court to order the prosecutor to file criminal cruelty charges based on our investigation video, after he had previously refused to. The higher court’s seminal ruling said that the state anti-cruelty law protects farmed animals, and that its exemption for "normal agricultural operations" doesn't allow for the cruel treatment of cows documented in our investigation.

* Filing a petition in Maine requiring the Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry (DACF) to implement and enforce Maine’s cruelty law to protect fish in aquaculture. This is as a result of DACF’s refusal to address the cruelty revealed in our Cooke salmon hatchery investigation ([link removed]) .

* Suing the American Heart Association (AHA) over its misleading use of the “Heart-Check” certification on certain meat products. Our lawsuit alleges that the AHA allows companies to display the “Heart-Check” for a fee on their meat products, marketing those products as “heart healthy,” which contradicts AHA’s previous statements about the negative effects of eating such “foods”.

* Filing a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission about a misleading ad campaign called “Beat the Lag,” funded by the dairy industry’s checkoff program. This campaign features prominent gamer influencers and promotes the supposed benefits of dairy to their 120 million followers, mostly Gen Z gamers, some as young as 10 years old.

* Filing a New Jersey Citizen Complaint against Bravo Packing, which slaughters cows and horses for animal food, and its owner and president, based on evidence documented in our undercover investigation ([link removed]) . As a result, the owner of Bravo Packing pleaded guilty to a criminal charge.

It’s not possible for us all to fight against the widespread cruel nature of animal agriculture in the courtroom, but we all have the power to refuse to accept what happens in this cruel industry by eating vegan ([link removed]) .

Thank you. Standing united, we will build a better tomorrow for all animals.

With gratitude,

Cheryl Leahy
Executive Director
