I’m Sean Rankin, the President of DAGA.
We’ve had a lot to celebrate this year – holding critical AG seats, flipping Vermont back and winning (officially soon) Arizona, and sending a strong message that Democrats will not allow democracy and reproductive rights to be taken away.
But there’s one more reason to celebrate in 2022: We turned 20 this year! And I wanted to thank you, friend, for being a part of this incredible community that’s dedicated to electing Democratic AGs.
In my nearly seven years at DAGA, I have seen so much positive change and progress. The position of state AG has grown to new importance, and its recognition continues to increase. DAGA has expanded its platform to educate more people on the work of AGs, advocate for the values we share, and elect those who will use the broad powers of this office to make a difference in the lives of Americans everyday. We set audacious goals and do not veer from our challenges in front of us. That has made the difference. From flipping four critical seats in 2018, and holding those all in 2022, to flipping a couple more this year, we have elected the most diverse coalition of AG-office holders in history. And you have played a consequential part. I appreciate the work you’ve put in, friend. This community we’re building is special and made up from folks all around the country who understand the importance Democratic AGs have in our everyday lives. My first year at DAGA was 2016. At the end of that year, Donald Trump won the presidency and showed the country that our democracy, health care, and so many other fundamental rights could only be protected by our Dem AGs pushing back from the States. AGs sit in the perfect position – and the only position – to do just that. We fought back against Trump, winning over 80% of our cases against him in court.
In 2022 we defended our toughest battleground seats in Nevada, Michigan, Wisconsin, and Minnesota, while flipping Arizona and Vermont. We need your continued support to defend 2023 and 2024 seats. I’m so proud we’ve become a powerhouse committee with hardworking staff members directing policy, digital outreach, fundraising, and helping our AGs and candidates tell their stories. I can’t thank you enough for working alongside us, friend.
