Dear John,
The U.S. government keeps a lot of secrets—and we work to expose them.
This year, the American Immigration Council litigated 17 cases under the Freedom of Information Act in federal court.
We harness litigation, FOIA requests, and advocacy to expose wrongdoing and promote transparency within immigration agencies. By helping us shine a light on unjust policies and laws, together we can ensure the government doesn’t operate in the dark.

Here are 3 efforts you will directly support with your gift:
1. Uncovering Government Documents on the Migrant Flights to Martha’s Vineyard [[link removed]]
We filed a FOIA request to learn more about federal officials’ role in providing misleading information to migrants during their relocation to Martha’s Vineyard. The requested records will shed light on the government’s decision to use certain mailing addresses on immigration paperwork—including ones that were nonexistent—and its practice of granting or extending humanitarian parole.
2. Nationwide Policies Regarding Bond [[link removed]]
This lawsuit challenges ICE’s policies that have made it extremely difficult—and in many cases impossible—for people in detention centers to access their attorneys. Being able to speak with an attorney is crucial to succeed in immigration proceedings—and the outcome is often life and death.
3. Obtaining Records on Massive Delays Processing Afghans’ Humanitarian Parole Applications [[link removed]]
We filed this FOIA lawsuit on behalf of our Afghan allies who assisted the U.S. military in Afghanistan, many of whom are at risk of retaliation from the Taliban. The suit seeks to compel USCIS to disclose information about the massive processing delays for humanitarian parole filed for vulnerable Afghans who have not yet been able to travel to the United States.
