The GOP is so brazenly in the pockets of corporations and big businesses
that they will both force women to give birth against their will, while
also blocking and voting down numerous examples of legislation designed to
help improve the lives of working mothers.

The most recent example, the addition of the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act
(originally H.R. 1065) to the Omnibus spending package, has received
misplaced criticism from the right.
One such critic, Senator Thom Tillis (NC), blocked the bill with an
argument that the bill would somehow contribute to “abortion on demand.”
The bill itself is designed to provide “reasonable accommodations to the
known limitations” of one experiencing the effects of “pregnancy,
childbirth, or related medical conditions.”
One could assume that, per the bill’s language, to request and receive the
accommodations – a worker would, indeed, need to be pregnant or have
recently given birth…. which would rule out the abortion argument.
Note that these voting inconsistencies seem to be par for the course for
anti-abortion GOP members. While many of them support restrictions on
abortion and women’s healthcare, they generally also vote against any
additional protections or aid for pregnant women, mothers, and children.
Another recent example included the PUMP Act – which aimed “To amend the
Fair Labor Standards Act of 1938 to expand access to breastfeeding
accommodations in the workplace, and for other purposes.”
Yet again, it was met with contention from the right – 149 Republicans in
the House voted against the act last October and Rand Paul blocked the
bill on Tuesday in the Senate.
The unyielding hypocrisy of the self-righteous “pro-life party” CONTINUES
with every new bill introduced. Tammy Duckworth recently introduced a bill
to protect IVF (The Right to Build Families Act,) yet again, Republicans
blocked the bill.
A bill that protects the right to start a family, the GOP’s main cause and
rallying cry, and they blocked it.
The Republican party is not a family-first party or one of family values,
but a party of protecting large businesses, restricting healthcare, and
creating problems for Americans that they have no intention of ever
repairing.
