Dear NRDC Activist,
Pro-polluter zealots are coming for our hard-won environmental protections with a wrecking ball right now.
Encouraged by the dramatic rightward shift in our federal judiciary, they believe they have an opening to tear down our rights to breathe clear air, drink clean water, and defend our communities from pollution.
But I think they are seriously underestimating us. And by us, I mean you ... and NRDC's legal team.
I need your help to send America's very best environmental litigators to court. Today is the final day to give to the NRDC Legal Fund and have your gift MATCHED — and ensure this team can stay in court until these attacks are repelled.
I'll be frank — since the Supreme Court undermined the EPA's ability to regulate climate pollution earlier this year, the right-wing offensive to shred our environmental protections is well underway. In fact, the very first case on the Supreme Court's docket this term was an attack on the Clean Water Act. If polluters succeed, protections for drinking water sources for 100 million people could vanish overnight.
The legal team here at NRDC is fighting back against this wave of alarming polluter attacks right now: We're in court arguing against polluters who are determined to halt progress toward clean-energy vehicles by torpedoing California's historic plan to transition to 100% emissions-free car sales by 2035.
And we just moved to join a case to help save Utah's Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monuments from yet another coordinated, ideological attack to hand them over to the fossil fuel industry.
Help us reach our goal of $100,000 with a matched gift before midnight TONIGHT! The NRDC Legal Fund is our best shot at defending our environment against polluters in Trump-stacked courts.
As scary as these cases are, they are just a prelude to what we expect will be a steady barrage of legal attacks now that the Supreme Court has all but given polluters the green light to attack our environmental protections.
And we know that if these polluters win, it will hurt the most vulnerable among us—low-income communities and communities of color who are forced to live near toxic factories, who have dangerous levels of lead in their drinking water, and who continue to bear the brunt of environmental injustice.
There's no two ways about it: the legal response must be as tough and unyielding as the attacks we're facing, and our team of whip-smart, dedicated, and experienced lawyers at NRDC are up to the job.
Now I have to ask: Are you with us?
Make your gift of just $5 before MIDNIGHT when the Legal Fund match expires, so we are ready to hit back with maximum legal power.
Thank you for your generous support. Together, we can do this.
Sincerely,
Mitch Bernard
