Dear John,

It's very nearly the end of 2022 and - with the support of our dedicated members and supporters - Population Matters has had quite the year!

In January we started with an op-ed feature on CNN rebutting comments from Pope Francis and cut through the winter gloom with a spotlight on our Choice Ambassadors whose young voices inspire us. February had a global policy focus, featuring new United Nations (UN) reports on our food systems and the latest 'Frontiers' report from the environment programme. March brought joy with Florence Blondel's reflections on motherhood and the start of a brand new population conversation in Kenya.

Come April, we were reporting on our Empower to Plan project in Colombia and launched our new digital Population Explorer tool. May brought a celebration of our Patron Sir David Attenborough's birthday and the launch of our new HumaNature biodiversity campaign. June saw us joining the chorus of concern when Roe v. Wade was overturned in the USA, whilst for July's World Population Day we brought together activists across the world to respond to the latest UN population projections, and celebrated our Change Champions for a second year.

We awarded Elon Musk a fake news award and published a report rebutting all his population 'facts' in August, while September brought the news that gender equality is still 86 years away and we launched our first campaign on consumption. October brought us back to nature with the release of the latest Living Planet report ahead of November's focus on the 8 billion milestone (including 270 media mentions), whilst also talking all things family planning at an international conference in Thailand. 

Now it's almost the end of December and we're putting the finishing touches on our annual report and surveys, whilst very much looking forward to recharging our batteries over the Christmas break!

It's been a busy year and a challenging one, especially in the face of economic instability. Charities like ours are feeling the pinch and we know you are too, but we couldn't have achieved nearly as much without your support. Thank you for being here with us, through the good news and the bad.

There's so much more to do in the New Year and we'll be keeping the population conversation going: talking about climate change, women's rights, the sixth mass extinction, consumption in the Global North, family planning and so much more.
