What. A. Year. We hope all Ocean Activists enjoy a well deserved break over the holidays. And whilst we know thereβs still a lot to do to protect the ocean, we're taking the Christmas break to pause and take stock of all the great things we've achieved together. The voice of Ocean Activism grows louder by the day, thank you. We couldn't have done it without you.Β π’ The momentum we've been building for years finally broke the surface in 2022.Β As shockingΒ tales of sewage filling the sea were shared all across the UK, our voice was front and centre of the story. βTogether, we are making a difference, but there's so much more to come.Β As the saying goes, individually we're a drop, together we're an ocean.Β So here's what the last 12 months of Ocean Activism looked likeβ¦ Β
1. Thousands of Ocean Activists took to the streets for our National #EndSewagePollution protests up and down the UK. Β
2. Our Water Quality Report exposed a host of potentially illegal sewage dumps and the scale of the sewage scandal. Β
3. 50,000 petition signatures showed DEFRA that we wont stand by as our rivers are poisoned.Β Β
4. We relaunched our Safer Seas and Rivers Service app with new features, allowing you to make informed decisions about when and where you use the water. Β
5. This year's Brand Audit revealed the top polluters, and the repeat offenders. Hello again Coca-Cola! Β
6. Thousands of you cleaned more than a million miles, stopping plastic pollution from making its way to the ocean. Thanks to our amazing reps and communities for leading the change with our Million Mile Clean. Β
7. 6063 pupils joined us and our fantastic hosts for the Pupil Power Assembly. The session isΒ designed to equip pupils with the tools and inspiration to make their voices heard. WeΒ remind pupils of the wonders of the ocean and why it is so critical to protect it. Β
7. ...and 88 young people were inspired at Ocean School, including those who wouldn't usually get to spend time at the beach.Β Β
8. To raise money for our ocean-saving work, more than 5,000 dippers immersed themselves in cold water every day in October. Here are just a few of the amazing faces who braved the cold... Β
