The Hill: "Did the Supreme Court flip the House by refusing to enforce the Voting Rights Act?"

By historical measures, the 2022 midterm election was disastrous for Republicans. But despite their poor performance, the GOP still managed to just barely flip control of the House of Representatives.
According to some experts, Republicans owe their narrow House majority to the weakening of the Voting Rights Act.
“Republicans can thank ... Supreme Court justices appointed by Republican presidents ... The election outcome was very likely changed by their Feb. 7, 2022, decision to make it clear that the Voting Rights Act would not be enforced this year to prevent states from using congressional districts drawn in violation of the law.”

Republicans have been working to undermine the Voting Rights Act for years – and now, we’re experiencing the consequences of their efforts. Will you pitch in to help the NDRC fight back by working to protect every American’s right to vote?

Don’t forget: In the months following the 2020 election, Republican lawmakers passed dozens of voter suppression bills in states across the country. Now that the GOP has taken control of the House majority, we fully expect them to continue their assault on voting rights at the national level.
This sustained Republican attack on voting rights threatens the foundations of our democracy – but we’re not powerless against it. As President Obama said, “Our democracy is resilient as long as we stay engaged and active between elections.”
Republicans won’t rest until they’ve fully dismantled the Voting Rights Act. That’s why the NDRC is staying active and engaged in our efforts to defend voting rights. If you’re still with us, will you pitch in now with a quick donation?
