As the year winds down, I'm looking to what the future holds. I know it won't all be sunshine and triumphant trans flags waving in the breeze, but we have to remember to let ourselves experience joy. In this moment, when our opposition is intent on erasing us, allowing ourselves and our community to experience joy is a radical act.

I hope that, as you reflect, you find a way to celebrate yourself and the ways you've shown up for the trans community this year.

Friend, NCTE and the NCTE Action Fund have a lot of dreamy plans for 2023 - plans that will both protect and expand the rights of transgender people. Your support is what turns those dreams into reality.

A few of the things we have planned for 2023 are to:

* Build power with state and local organizations to mobilize on-the-ground activists in response to anti-trans state regulations. The more trans and LGBTQ+ organizations work together, the more powerful we are. As another wave of anti-trans bills are introduced, we'll be ready.

* Proactively push state administrations on the inclusion of gender-affirming health care through state Medicaid. Trans people with low incomes are most likely to experience barriers to gender-affirming care. It isn't enough to just respond to anti-trans attacks: we must proactively work to build equity for trans people.

* Release data from the historic 2022 U.S. Transgender Survey (USTS). This data will be used by NCTE and hundreds of other organizations to demonstrate the needs of the trans community. We use data from the USTS to help change policies at the state, federal, and local levels.
