*Courthouse, County offices closed Friday (12/23)*

The Kitsap County Courthouse and all County offices are closed Friday (12/23) due to the ice storm predicted Friday. ?Forecasters are confident that we are getting some snow, followed by a period of sleet which will turn to freezing rain,? said Joe Rutan, County Engineer. Because this freezing rain is falling on already frozen surfaces it will quickly adhere and accumulate. Forecasts predict up to a ? of ice in South Kitsap County with lesser amounts as you move north. ?The freezing rain is predicted to occur between 5 AM and noon, during peak commute times. This can present very challenging driving conditions and potential for downed trees and limbs closing roads and creating power outages,? Rutan added.

County road crews are out today applying ice control measures on hills, curves, bridges, and intersections, as well as plowing and sanding operations throughout the County. Crews will continue working overnight tonight to respond to the weather.
