For many, this time of the year is for enjoying well-deserved time with their loved ones. However, for those caught in crises caused by violent conflict or natural disasters, this is a period of great uncertainty. Right now, Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) staff are putting Aid First for people in need of emergency support:
When the war in Ukraine began in February, MSF rapidly mobilized an emergency response. Since then, we’ve medically evacuated over 2,000 patients by train, delivered more than 800 metric tons of medical and relief supplies, and provided around-the-clock care for war-wounded people.
After catastrophic flooding devastated communities in Pakistan, MSF launched into action with emergency aid. MSF staff have delivered 300,000 liters of clean drinking water, conducted over 10,000 medical consultations, and distributed over 5,000 non-food aid kits for those who lost their homes.
In Haiti, a resurgence of cholera has pushed an already vulnerable situation into a full health disaster. As of November 16, MSF has admitted more than 8,500 patients and recorded 97 deaths. The outbreak has strained the country’s health system and MSF is currently filling critical gaps in care.
Our commitment to putting the lives and medical needs of our patients first wouldn’t be possible without our steadfast supporter community. Gifts from our supporters allow us to respond to emergencies when others can’t or won’t.
