JOhn,
Congress is wrapping up its work for the year — including making sure the government remains funded.
Unfortunately, we're going to fall short when it comes to something that matters for millions of working families: renewing the child tax credit.
I was not alone among my colleagues in urging Congress to act. But special interests won out, and now members will be going home for the holidays while many of their constituents continue to struggle.
My pledge for the new year is to keep fighting for the child tax credit — and I need the help of my supporters to keep the call to action alive. Will you stand with me and add your name to my petition? We're hoping for 10,000 signatures before the new Congress is sworn in on January 3.

Coming into 2021, our country was still in the grip of a devastating pandemic and its accompanying economic fallout. Millions were struggling every day to get by. When Congress provided relief through the American Rescue Plan, expanding the child tax credit was an essential component.
This expansion had historic results. Throughout 2021, childhood poverty fell by 26 percent. We could have helped tens of millions of more families in 2022 and beyond had we made the expansion permanent, and it speaks sad volumes that special interests can still limit our ability to pass life-changing policies.
This is about fairness, opportunity, and humanity. Far too many parents still face the impossible choice between caring for their children and working to support their family. That should not happen in the United States.
I promise to keep speaking out about this, however long it takes. We have a chance at ending childhood poverty this decade if we can muster the political will to make the child tax credit permanent.
So as we prepare to ring in 2023, our work continues. Please join me and sign your name to urge Congress to re-expand the child tax credit and make it permanent →
