King County Shares Equity and Social Justice Strategic Plan Highlights

King County is working together every day to reach our True North ? to make King County a welcoming community where every person can thrive.

When we look at data across our communities, whether considering health, access to housing and good-paying jobs, graduation rates, income, or incarceration, the starkest, most persistent, most detrimental disparities are correlated with race.

In?2016, King County launched its Equity and Social Justice Strategic Plan [ [link removed] ], which has informed the direction for the County?s equity, racial, and social justice work since its development.

To share just some of that work, we have created the??ESJ Strategic Plan Highlights? [ [link removed] ]?- an online, interactive approach to presenting some of the County?s significant initiatives, efforts, and investments towards becoming anti-racist and pro-equity.

This highlight report shows just some of the important work our departments and agencies have done to transform our systems, policies, and practices.?Our employees and community partners have been actively working to help us do just that ? interrupting and rebuilding government systems in order to ensure all people have equitable opportunities for peace, power, and prosperity. While the impacts of inequity and injustice are felt most directly in some communities, racism ultimately impacts all of us.

We encourage you to watch this video [ [link removed] ] for an overview of the highlights and to spend time exploring the entire report to learn more about our work across departments to meet the needs where they are greatest.

We look forward to working together in the coming year to develop a refreshed Equity and Social Justice Strategic Plan that is informed by what we have learned, and reflective of the voices of communities and employees throughout the organization.

If we are to achieve our True North and realize our shared vision of a King County where all people have equitable opportunities to thrive, every day we must confront the harm caused by racism and other systems of oppression. Together we will create a new and more equitable future.
