Today, I am happy to report that Christmas came early for IJ clients and small-town entrepreneurs Jeremy Sark and Marie Dougherty, owners of Sark’s Automotive.

Using a slow-motion eminent domain process called amortization, the town of Mauldin, South Carolina, declared that the town’s new zoning codes would make it illegal for Sark’s Automotive to rent U-Hauls.

Just three months after we filed suit, the town rescinded its attack on Sark’s Automotive!

This victory means Jeremy and Marie won’t have to lay off any of their trusted employees, nor will they lose a valuable component of their business at the whim of town officials and an overzealous developer who claimed he didn’t like the appearance of a U-Haul business.

The town of Mauldin abandoning their gambit also broadcasts an unmistakable message to other cities in South Carolina and across America: Don’t deprive people of safe, reasonable property uses.

IJ is dedicated to protecting the right of every American to own and use their property freely. From civil forfeiture and eminent domain abuse to rental inspections and unreasonable zoning laws, we are constantly challenging government infringements on property rights.

While Jeremy and Marie’s American Dream is secure following Mauldin’s reversal, many of IJ’s clients are facing much tougher opponents. But thanks to IJ, they’re not alone. Will you stand with us? <[link removed]>

With your support, we will defend nearly 200 clients in 94 cases against abusive government overreach—no matter how long it takes.

Give a gift today to help IJ pursue freedom and justice for all. <[link removed]>
