[ [link removed] ]Sign now: Insurrectionists shouldn’t serve in Congress!

Dear MoveOn member,

We wanted to make sure you saw our petition to urge our representatives to
object to all insurrectionists being sworn in to Congress. Section 3 of
the 14th Amendment makes clear that anyone who has previously sworn an
oath to uphold the Constitution and then engages in "insurrection or
rebellion" against the United States is permanently disqualified from
holding future public office. Insurrectionists have no place in Congress.

[ [link removed] ]Will you add your name to our petition? We're calling for
representatives to challenge the eligibility of lawmakers who aided the
January 6 insurrection! More than 80,000 MoveOn members have already added
their names.

There's clear evidence that Marjorie Taylor Greene, Paul Gosar, and Lauren
Boebert aided and encouraged Trump’s violent attack on the U.S. Capitol in
an effort to overturn the 2020 election results. This makes them
ineligible to serve in Congress, but barring them requires our
representatives to act.

We are building momentum toward January 3, when House members are sworn
in, and we want our representatives to hear our demand to object to all
insurrectionists!

[ [link removed] ]Sign the petition today! We must hold these elected officials
accountable for their efforts to overturn our democracy. Insurrectionists
shouldn't serve in Congress.

Thanks for all you do.

Dear MoveOn member,

Paul Gosar, Lauren Boebert, and Marjorie Taylor Greene. These three are
preparing to be sworn in to the U.S. House of Representatives on January
3, but there’s one problem: They aided and encouraged Trump’s violent
attack on the U.S. Capitol in an effort to overturn the 2020 election
results. The Constitution makes clear that insurrectionists are barred
from holding future office.

The evidence is irrefutable—these three voiced support for and helped
facilitate the deadly January 6 insurrection.^1 They therefore are
ineligible to serve in Congress. But to actually bar them, our
representatives will need to speak up. During the upcoming swearing-in
ceremony, a new or returning member-elect of the House may challenge the
qualifications of another before they take the oath of office.^2 [ [link removed] ]We
must urge them to act.

Insurrectionists are BARRED from serving in Congress. Tell your
representative to object to all January 6th insurrectionists from being
sworn into Congress.

Section 3 of the 14th Amendment makes clear that anyone who has previously
sworn an oath to uphold the Constitution and then engages in "insurrection
or rebellion" against the United States (or provides "aid or comfort" to
its enemies) is permanently disqualified from holding future public
office.^3

Marjorie Taylor Greene's candidacy was challenged before the Georgia
secretary of state by a group of Georgia voters in March, 2022. In both
state and federal court, Greene insisted that Georgia authorities had no
legal authority to determine whether she was disqualified from office and
that only the U.S. House of Representatives could do so. Now’s the time
for representatives to do their job and object to her and all other
insurrectionists' serving in Congress.^4

[ [link removed] ]Tell your representative to challenge the eligibility of lawmakers who
aided the January 6 insurrection for public office.

This is a fight for justice and accountability. It’s a fight to preserve
our democracy in the face of insurrection. It’s a fight to defend our
Constitution and ultimately our communities. Those intent on destroying
our republic must be held accountable.

Thanks for all you do.
