Pelosi announced yesterday that the House leadership has decided to send Impeachment Articles to the Senate next week.
This raises some very serious questions: Has the Senate agreed to have a fair trial? Is McConnell willing to accept any witnesses, like John Bolton, who refused to testify before the House?
Party leaders are playing games with this very serious process while the American public is demanding answers. A recent poll reported by fivethietyeight.com showed the majority of Americans believe the case made in the House shows strong evidence for removing Trump, with 57% of Americans polled saying they believe Trump committed an impeachable offense.
This is no time for partisan posturing. The security of our democracy is at stake. This impeachment trial can impact Congressional powers to hold Presidents accountable in the future.
We need new leadership in Congress. We deserve a House and Senate that is steadfast in protecting our system of checks and balances, even if it means standing up to party leadership.
