** Not sure how pandering to coastal elites is going to play in Laramie...

Roll Call ([link removed]) (7/29/19) reports: "A bill that aims to increase funding by more than 25 percent for the repair and maintenance of roads and bridges, and expedite federal approvals of large infrastructure projects was released Monday by the Senate public works panel, which set a Tuesday markup for the legislation...The legislation includes bipartisan bills already advanced by the committee aimed at reducing carbon emissions; reauthorization of the Diesel Emissions Reduction Act program, which helps cut emissions from diesel-powered engines, and legislation the committee approved earlier this year to drive research into carbon capture, utilization and sequestration. The bill also includes other climate-related provisions, such as authorizing $4.9 billion over five years for programs aimed at improving the resiliency of roads and bridges 'from natural disasters such as wildfires, and extreme weather
events such as hurricanes, flooding, and mudslides,' according to a summary provided by the committee. It would also set aside $1 billion for a competitive grant program to coax states and local authorities to build hydrogen, natural gas and electric vehicle fueling stations along certain highway corridors."

"As the human race sleepwalks its way towards a planetary calamity, there is a growing recognition of the need for a 'moonshot' aimed at addressing the greatest existential challenge we have ever faced."

(7/29/19) column: "Singer and actress Miley Cyrus has declared that she will not be having any children with her new husband, Liam Hemsworth, until climate change gets resolved. 'We’ve been doing the same thing to the earth that we do to women. We just take and take and expect it to keep producing. And it’s exhausted. It can’t produce,' Cyrus said. 'We don’t want to reproduce because we know that the earth can’t handle it.'"

Exhibit 231: Politicians use funds to back their pet projects, regardless of earmarked intention. You think a carbon tax will be different?

(7/25/19) reports: "Governor Gavin Newsom visited the central valley to sign a bill setting aside $130-million in greenhouse gas emission funding for clean water projects. The Associated Press reports that some environmental groups raised concerns about the legislation because it takes away funding that was earmarked to reduce carbon emissions in the air. The Governor argues that disadvantaged communities are most impacted by climate change and it is a 'moral disgrace' that over one million Californians lack access to clean drinking water. Newsom says, 'Parents shouldn’t have to worry about their kids drinking from the water fountain at school, and families shouldn’t have to dump water over their heads to shower every day. This funding is critically important to addressing California’s long-standing safe drinking water issues.'"

(7/29/19) reports: "The top echelon of staffers at the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee left their jobs Monday, a shakeup following a pair of POLITICO stories detailing deep unease with the party’s campaign apparatus over a lack of diversity. On Monday morning, Allison Jaslow, DCCC executive director and a close ally of Rep. Cheri Bustos (D-Ill.) — chair of the committee — resigned during a tense meeting at the party’s Capitol Hill headquarters. And in the next 10 hours, much of the senior staff was out: Jared Smith, the communications director and another Bustos ally; Melissa Miller, a top DCCC communications aide; Molly Ritner, political director; Nick Pancrazio, deputy executive director; and Van Ornelas, the DCCC’s director of diversity."

(7/25/19) reports: "The first 2020 Democratic presidential debates spent 15 minutes on climate change. That’s more than the candidates spoke about the issue during presidential debates for the 2016 election, but it’s much less than would satisfy some who care about the issue. Jay Inslee, the governor of Washington state, has structured his presidential campaign with climate change as its central focus. 'This is a climate crisis, an emergency,' Inslee said at the first Democratic primary debate on June 26, 2019. Both advocates and candidates have called for a debate centered around climate change. The Democratic National Committee has rejected that approach, opting instead for 12 sanctioned debates focused on a range of issues. Nonetheless, many candidates have plans, some lengthy and detailed, some brief and vague, to address climate change. Generally, the candidates support recommitting to the Paris climate agreement and implementing a Green New Deal, at least in some form. But there are
some exceptions...We’ll take you through some of the key points of the climate change discussion among the Democratic field. To see where the individual candidates stand on climate change policies, check out our chart."

Greta is taking a sailing vacation to combat climate change.

(7/29/19) reports: "Greta Thunberg, the Swedish teen who inspired a massive youth movement to combat climate change, will sail across the Atlantic to bring her message to the Americas. 'I’ll be joining the UN Climate Action Summit in New York, COP25 in Santiago and other events along the way,' Thunberg announced Monday. 'I’ve been offered a ride on the 60ft racing boat Malizia II. We’ll be sailing across the Atlantic Ocean from the UK to NYC in mid August.'"
