Minnesota’s updated wolf plan strengthens wolf conservation

The DNR has finalized an updated wolf management plan that incorporates the diverse views of Minnesotans and will guide the state’s approach to wolf conservation for the next 10 years.

Thank you to everyone who engaged in the planning process! Minnesotans’ involvement has been critical to establishing the comprehensive vision for wolves that is reflected in this plan.

The DNR is continuing Minnesota’s longstanding commitment to wolf conservation and to ensuring our wolf population remains healthy and stable.

The plan includes summary information about Minnesota’s wolf population and the history of wolves in the state. It details the diverse and changing public attitudes about wolves, the legal status of wolves, tribal perspectives on wolves, and ways to support a healthy and resilient wolf population while minimizing conflicts between humans and wolves. The plan also includes a framework for how the state will approach decisions about wolf hunting or trapping if the wolf is delisted federally.

You can find a full version of the updated plan and information about the planning process on the DNR wolf plan page.

How to get CWD test results

Hunters can check the DNR website for chronic wasting disease test results on the deer they’ve harvested. The site also shows statewide CWD test results, including locations of deer that tested positive, and statistics.

Any additional deer harvested during Minnesota deer seasons that test positive for CWD will be reported on the CWD results page. The DNR also will directly notify any hunter who harvests a deer that tests positive. The DNR counts on hunters’ participation in providing samples to help with disease surveillance and appreciates all those who submitted samples.
