Dear Friend,

2022 has been a year of incredible progress! We can't thank you enough for your support, passion, and engagement that have made so many victories possible.

We invite you to look back with us over the year at just a few highlights of what we've achieved together! There's much more where this came from  stay tuned for our 2022 Gratitude Report!

Pornhub Gets Kicked off Instagram, YouTube, and TikTok

Imagine your tween is searching for holiday gift ideas and lands on a TikTok video called “Holiday Collection” featuring pornography performers around a Christmas tree peddling Pornhub holiday sweaters barely covering breasts in a grossly deceptive Hallmark-like commercial.

Or your teen is considering possible professions and Instagram serves up “Next Career Goal?” with pornography performers pushing selling one’s body as an empowering job choice.

Maybe your child is looking up Halloween costume ideas on YouTube and is directed to Pornhub’s video on “Halloween Costume Searches” that includes a suggestion to “check out our Pornhub insights blog for more details and other posts on P*rnhub.com.”

Until recently, Pornhub had verified accounts on YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok that were easily accessible to kids. But we got them kicked off!

Read about these three victories and why they're so important here.

The UN Establishes a World Day on Child Sexual Exploitation, Abuse, and Violence

This November, the United Nations agreed to establish November 18th as an annual World Day for the Prevention of and Healing from Child Sexual Exploitation, Abuse and Violence! The Global Collaborative, of which the International Center on Sexual Exploitation (a division of NCOSE) is a member, has been urging the UN to do this for three years.

Last year, many of you joined us in calling for the establishment of this day by participating in a Global Virtual Walk on November 18th. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for making this global victory possible!

The new UN World Day will bring together survivors, civil society, and governments to focus and better align vital resources, heighten awareness of the problem of child sexual exploitation and abuse, and support victims and their families in their quest for healing and justice. Learn more here.

Judge Sides with Survivors of CSAM in Powerful Ruling Against Pornhub/MindGeek

In February, the Law Center's class action lawsuit Doe #1 et al, v. MG Freesites LTD et al, which represents survivors of child sexual abuse material that was distributed and monetized on Pornhub/MindGeek, was allowed to move forward despite MindGeek's attempt to dismiss the case!

This was a truly groundbreaking victory as it was the first time in the nation's history that a federal court ruled an online platform could be held liable for knowing possession and distribution of child sexual abuse material (CSAM). As such, the judge's ruling opened the door to other lawsuits on behalf of children whose abuse images have been trafficked on Internet platforms. And it brought us one step closer to bringing the Internet pornography industry crumbling down!

Snapchat Releases Parental Controls

Following six years of advocacy from NCOSE, Snapchat finally released its first set of parental controls in August!

These parental controls are called "Family Center" and are designed to help caregivers gain insight into who their children are interacting with on the app. The NCOSE Team participated in discussions and official expert consultations around the Family Center development.

Family Center introduces some important safety features, such as allowing caregivers to see their kids'  "Friends" list and more easily report suspicious accounts. NCOSE continues to advocate for further improvements!

Learn more about Snapchat's parental controls here.

Keep the Progress Going with a TRIPLED Gift!

We are so excited to build on the momentum of these victories and continue achieving great things together in 2023!

We can't thank you enough for standing with us as we work to build a world where all can live and love free from sexual abuse and exploitation!

Sincerely,
