Dear John,
In 2022, the American Immigration Council litigated several important lawsuits to fight for a fair and humane immigration system. We took the government to court over family separation, delayed naturalization petitions, illegal metering of asylum seekers at the border, the treatment of teens in detention, and attorney access for immigrants in detention.
Supporters like you have been the foundation of the Council for decades. Will you make a gift to the Council’s 2023 legal fund today?

Here are 3 lawsuits you will directly support with your gift:
Seeking Damages and Accountability for Families Separated at the Border [[link removed]]
We’re seeking monetary damages on behalf of six mothers and their children—ages 5 to 12—who were torn apart for months under the Trump administration’s family separation policy. The lawsuit demands compensation for the extreme trauma the government caused these asylum-seeking families. This year, the Council was a part of a legal team that deposed key government officials and sought documents and records to tell the full, horrific story of family separation.
Ensuring Everyone in Immigration Detention Has Access to Legal Counsel [[link removed]]
This lawsuit challenges ICE’s policies that have made it extremely difficult—and in many cases impossible—for people in detention centers to access their attorneys. Being able to speak with an attorney is crucial to succeed in immigration proceedings—and the outcome is often life and death.
Challenging USCIS to End Naturalization Application Delays [[link removed]]
We filed this lawsuit on behalf of a group of immigrants who experienced massive delays waiting for their U.S. citizenship applications to be processed. The government kept delaying, saying that their immigration files were stuck in man-made caves. After we sued, the government finally retrieved the files and moved forward with the group's applications.
The Council can file lawsuits because of your generosity. Help us hold the government accountable by donating today [[link removed]] .
