As we close out another year, we are reflecting on our organizational value of joy, an important source of strength and healing in the face of persistent human problems that are the focus of our work. Joy – the  expression of inner peace, happiness, and contentment – manifests in many different ways, and is what fuels us in our work toward enduring peace and freedom.

This holiday season we wish you an abundance of joy. Thank you for being part of our Humanity United community.

WHAT'S HAPPENING AT HU

In a recent blog post, HU Managing Director of Peacebuilding Melanie Greenberg shared her insights on creating a culture where peace can grow in Colombia. Don't miss the full blog series, where HU staff members present an up-close look at the Colombians to whom peacebuilding is a lifelong commitment.

HU support for the World Liberty Congress helped convene nearly 250 pro-democracy activists from around the world in Vilnius to co-design a global movement, networked into local/national movements, to challenge violent authoritarians that are increasingly collaborating with one another to spread new forms of repression and violence.

We recently reflected on the close of COP27, the 2022 United Nations Climate Change Conference, in a blog post that highlights how the climate crisis is a human rights crisis. "We must acknowledge that the worsening condition of our planet exacerbates human rights challenges."

Kehinde Togun, HU Managing Director for Public Engagement, was interviewed for the USIP podcast, "Reimagine Diversity and Equity." In this episode, Kehinde makes the case that peacebuilding institutions must ensure that the people who experience conflict directly are given the driver's seat in efforts to resolve it.

Congratulations to Ayla Francis, HU Senior Advisor for Policy & Government Relations, for being selected to join the 2022 U.S. National Security & Foreign Affairs Leadership List from the Center for Strategic and International Studies and the Diversity in National Security Network! This is an incredible recognition of leaders of diverse backgrounds in the fields of foreign affairs and national security.
