It is easy to think that a Democratic administration means a more hospitable immigration system, but unfortunately, it isn’t so clear cut.

Since the Biden administration took office, we have seen unprecedented growth in the surveillance of immigrants, continued collaboration between local police and ICE, vilification of immigrants with convictions, and the Department of Justice defending racist Trump-era immigration policies.

Devastating mass criminalization, detention and deportation is pervasive as ever. Immigrants with convictions remain at risk, unprotected, and unsupported.
