Thanks to friends and partners like you, this was a year of milestone victories for the environmental justice movement. With your support this year, WE ACT:
Advocated successfully at the federal level for historic infrastructure investments in environmental justice communities, through legislation such as the Inflation Reduction Act.
Launched Justice40ward, a national awareness and accountability project for the President Biden's Justice40 Initiative, to ensure that these federal investments are implemented at the local level in the way they were intended.
Established the first ever Blue Zone Climate Justice Pavilion at this year’s COP27 UNFCCC Congress of the Parties in Sharm El Sheikh, in partnership with the Deep South Center for Environmental Justice and The Bullard Center for Environmental and Climate Justice at Texas Southern University. This year's COP resulted in the historic establishment of a loss and damage fund to compensate vulnerable nations impacted by climate change.
Helped secure passage of New York’s Clean Water, Clean Air, and Green Jobs Bond Act, which will direct nearly $1.5 billion to environmental justice communities like West Harlem.
Completed “Out of Gas, in with Justice,” a pilot project in NYC affordable housing, that makes the case for electrifying our homes by demonstrating the significant amount of indoor air pollution caused by gas appliances.
Trained dozens of local students through our Environment Health and Justice Leadership Training, and prepared residents for careers in the clean energy industry through our workforce development program.
