Dear Friends,
We’ve had an amazing start to 2020. Our third panel discussion on Education Equity and Access highlighted the ways in which the DOE wastes precious taxpayer dollars on overpriced equipment for children with special needs, and on high-stakes testing.
I pledge to hold the DOE accountable for the millions of dollars spent every year on inequitable high-stakes testing. These funds could be redirected towards inexpensive adaptive designs for children with special needs.
As a Councilmember, one of my proudest moments was helping save the City over $600 million by identifying -- and stopping -- a bloated DOE contract. That $600 million was better spent elsewhere, for example on 65,000 children in Universal Pre-K programs.
As Comptroller, I can't wait to audit the Hell-en out of every agency and every contract. Every dollar saved is one more dollar to help the homeless, put more teachers in classrooms, and build more affordable housing.
To accomplish this, we need your help.
Today is our campaign filing deadline. We need to make sure our numbers reflect the strength of our grassroots campaign. Can you help us spread this message?
Your $10 dollar contribution today will show the power of Team Helen. Because of the 8:1 match, your $10 donation is worth $90 dollars to our campaign!
As Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. said, budgets are moral documents. Ours show what New York City thinks is worth its time and investment. This is the greatest city in the world, but faced with the rising costs of living and working here, too many hard-working New Yorkers are struggling to get by. We need to spend the City's money as carefully - and with the same priorities - as the New Yorkers who need to make every dollar count. That's the best way to fix today’s problems and invest in a better tomorrow.
We are counting on you to join us in the fight for a better New York City. Can you chip in before midnight?
We are so grateful for your support!
Warmly,
