California was the only U.S. state in participation at COP 15, the United Nations Biodiversity Conference of the Parties, last week in Montreal, showing our importance as a leader in local and global biodiversity and conservation efforts. 22 targets were set at the conference, but what do they mean for California? Here are our biggest takeaways:

We know 2022 was a landmark year for climate action in California, but how much of an improvement was it from 2021? Last year, we gave the state a 67% grade for delaying climate action in our Environmental Scorecard. We’ve been publishing our annual Scorecard grading the Governor and every single state legislator on their environmental and climate record from the previous year since 1973.
