Like every year since 1949, the programs of the Aspen Institute were hard at work to improve not just the future but here and now.

This was a year of hope and tragedy, of struggle and celebration. Like every year since 1949, the programs of the Aspen Institute were hard at work to improve not just the future but the here and now. We rose to face injustice, environmental catastrophe, and a crisis of trust. We supported colleagues embroiled in a military invasion, fought for worker rights, and battled misinformation. We helped lift up marginalized communities and were lifted up by the heroes we encountered along the way.

Creating a free, just, and equitable society is our ongoing mission. We are proud to have had you as a partner in 2022 and hope you’ll continue to be a part of our work in the next year and beyond.

They are more resilient to economic shocks, experience lower turnover, and have higher productivity levels than traditional business models. Read more about how cooperatives shift power into the hands of workers in this piece by Merrit Stüven of the Economic Opportunities Program.

Last week, Aspen Words announced the longlist for its annual literary prize. The award is given to a work of fiction that expands perspectives around contemporary issues such as gentrification, xenophobia, and climate change. The 14 books include seven debuts and five short story collections and feature a range of dynamic voices. Each would make a perfect holiday gift (or you could always treat yourself)!
